Home on the Range

It was a muggy, overcast day in the 'burg. But the Mama was happy, the Molly didn't care at all, and the Poppy had to get up early (let's just say around 7:45'ish) to greet the Maytag man. Well not the real Maytag man, but the Jenn-Air delivery men from the Maytag store. They promised to be here between 8:00 and 10:00 AM. Being the optimist that I am, I emailed my secretary and told her that I'd probably not be in until 11:00-12:00 o'clock or so, and maybe not at all. The bitches came at 8:15.

Everything went well. They were out of here around 9'ish, by when Molly finally became hoarse from barking. Needless to say I didn't go to work.

3:45 and here comes the Mama home from work. She immediately tries out the burners (like a moron I didn't), and only 3 of 4 ignite. I'm pissed. Bitching on the phone got me little more than the first appointment tomorrow for repairs. In the meantime Mama found 4 little brass gas nozzles which are probably the converters to LP for the 4th burner. So now I have to decide if I want to stay home and confront (hopefully) the guy who screwed up, or let the Mama fend for herself. I should probably just go to work.

Anyway here are a few (not so good) photos. First the old, then the new.
Stove photos

Update: The service tech just left. A loose ignition wire caused the burner not to fire. All is well in the 'burg today.

So, does the oven work like you have hoped... did you try baking anything yet?

The stove looks nice. It brings a level of "bling" to the McKeever household.

I agree on the 'bling'. Very fancy!! Can't wait to hear how it bakes! :)

I like it!! You must feel like a professional chef when using it ... you should start narrating everything you do while you cook.

I haven't been allowed to use it yet, but Mama made a darn good chocolate cake last night. I'll let her respond to cooking questions for he time being. I still prefer wood.

Ha! Are you implying, Jason, that the McKeever household was lacking in bling before the arrival of the new stove? Well, you may be right since Katie and her diamonds don't reside here anymore!
Re the baking...best cake I've made in a while, though it still did not rise to the level that cakes used to in my prehistoric oven.. However, it was acceptable and the service tech, this morning, gave me some good tips to try. He said he baked as well and he thinks a lot about these things, which I took to mean he may experience some of my difficulties. I'll experiment with the suggestions he gave me, but overall, I'm pretty pleased with the new unit. Sure looks good and the stovetop is much better designed, in every way, than the GE, which, incidentally is more photogenic than the Jenn Air. The Jenn Air looks better in person and the reverse is true for the GE.
And, yeah, Katie, I am tempted to do the whole narrative thing when I'm preparing food now. The next Food Network star. Only thing is I run out of stuff to say. I swear, I don't know how Rachael Ray does it. She has diarrhea of the mouth.

I banished Molly to the upstairs while the service tech was here this morning. She was barking and howling her head off. The tech said, "Beagle?" I guess their mouths are universally recognized.
